Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to Play Free Benefit Concerts June 10, 12

Musicians and friends of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra have joined together for two chamber-style concerts this weekend. These concerts will directly benefit the VSO and help meet financial goals and needs to hopefully carry the organization through the summer and into the 2011-2012 season.

The concerts will be performed Friday, June 10 at 7 pm & Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 309 W 39th St. in Vancouver.

Over its 32 years the VSO has become a cornerstone of Southwest Washington's arts community, providing world-renowned classical music, promoting young musicians, and opening doors to classical music for young audiences through event such as annual In-School concerts. Unless the VSO is able to raise $100,000, they may be forced to take a hiatus or disband. While attendance has been at record highs, the recession has reduced the amount of money that it receives from donors.

The upcoming benefit concerts, have rallied musicians and music lovers alike in collaborative efforts to show their support for live, classical music in SWW. The musicians generously sharing their talent include Michael C. Liu, Eva Richey, Tatiana Kolchanova, Igor Shakhman, Darren and Corrie Cook, Ed Sale, Kris Klavic, John Northe, Bruce Dunn and others.

While admission is free, parking and seating are limited. Your donation is needed & gratefully appreciated. Donations can be made at the concerts, online, by mail or by phoning the VSO office.
