Loretta Smith—Vote Yes

Loretta SmithLoretta Smith has a broad range of experience in developing policy, community involvement, education, youth employment, and housing, and would bring those skills to the city council. She knows how to get things done, and is not afraid to speak out. People in the community know her and respect the work she has done on their behalf. She has led the fight for homeless people, including mental health and drug treatment services. She is experienced in working on a national level to secure resources for local programs. She has always been a champion for equal rights and has not been afraid to speak out and confront racism.

Smith has been criticized for not being a team player, but she is committed to listen and act on behalf of all Portlanders. She admits having had her own struggles and challenges, but, she said that after looking at “how I show up and the impact of how I show up, regardless of intention, was I able to start making changes that I hope make me a better person and community servant going forward.”  that statement holds up when assessing Smith’s ability to evolve and grow from past experiences.

Smith will bring a strong voice to the Council and will add a much-needed perspective.

All voters in the City of Portland will receive a ballot for this election with the top two candidates from the May 2020 Primary Election for City of Portland Commissioner, Position 2. Dan Ryan and Loretta Smith will be the only names on the ballot for this Special Runoff Election. Voters will have until August 6 to safely mail their ballots. 24-hour ballot drop sites are open and available beginning the day ballots are mailed out until 8:00 PM on Election Day, August 11. City of Portland voters who do not receive a ballot by Thursday, July 30 should call the county elections office at 503-988-VOTE (8683).
