Lashai Williams was sentenced to close to eight years in prison for killing Billie Dee Andrea Pugh (pictured) in a car crash April 28. Pugh, 28, was the mother of three children, now aged 11, 7 and 2. She was studying at Portland Community College and planned to become a nurse. Her father, husband and daughter were in court for the sentencing hearing.
Williams pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the case. Pugh was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Brandon Pugh, who was also injured in the crash. Williams, aged 20 at the time, ran a red light, according to observers, and crashed into the Pugh's car. Drunk, she tried to flee, but was stopped by an off-duty police officer.
Since it is a Measure 11 crime, Williams will serve the full sentence.
