Extreme heat can be very dangerous, especially for the most vulnerable in our community. With temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees this weekend, two cooling centers will open in Multnomah County to help seniors and people with disabilities and other health conditions stay safe.
People in need of refuge from the hot weather can access cooling centers on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5, when temperatures are expected to climb to highs of 101 and 103 degrees, respectively.
Cooling center locations and hours of operation:
Multnomah County Walnut Park Building, 5325 NE MLK Jr. Blvd., Portland
Sat., June 4, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sun., June 5, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Multnomah County East Building, 600 NE 8th St., Gresham
Sat., June 4, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sun., June 5, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Transportation to the cooling centers can be arranged by calling Ride Connection at 503.226.0700.
Neighbors can also help by checking in on elderly or disabled friends and relatives. Heat stroke or heat exhaustion are common conditions in hot weather. Higher temperatures also can place a dangerous strain on those with heart and other health issues.
