Starting Wednesday, Aug. 23, around 1 p.m., expect traffic delays for more frequent lifts on the Hawthorne Bridge. Crews will need to open the bridge more frequently to begin greasing work on the bridge’s counterweight cables. The work will last roughly two hours. The bridge openings will last between 15-20 minutes. Use alternative routes. Greasing work continues Thursday, Aug. 24 at 9 a.m. Expect longer bridge lifts until noon that day.
This work is part of regular maintenance for the bridge that continues Sunday, August 27 when the Hawthorne Bridge will be closed to all motorized vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
