Dr. Sherman James, a professor of public policy at Duke University, will be speaking as part of the Public Health in Oregon 2010 series at noon on Friday, April 9. Doors are open at 11:30.
The speech – Race, Stress and Health: 21st Century Challenges and Opportunities -- and catered reception will take place at PCC Cascade's Moriarty Auditorium, 705 N. Killingsworth St. in Portland.
Dr. James focuses his research on racial and ethnic inequalities in regards to healthcare. In 2000, James was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 2000. He has received numerous awards for his work and has taught at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and at the University of Michigan.
