During a community forum at Freedom Church in West Seattle, Dorothy Gaines holds up a picture of three members of the same family serving time in federal prison. The forum focused on how criminal justice policies have a disproportionate impact on communities of color, particularly the African American community. Sponsored by the Village of Hope and King County Councilman Larry Gossett, the event featured Gaines, who served six years of a 20-year sentence after being mistakenly convicted of conspiracy to sell drugs. President Bill Clinton eventually pardoned her in 2000.
