A new partnership between the Federal Way School District and the Technology Access Foundation will help bring higher education into focus for Federal Way's children of color.
The school district and foundation have formed a public/private partnership to launch a new TAF Academy in September 2008.
"I'm thrilled that we have an opportunity for this unique partnership," said Federal Way School Superintendent Tom Murphy. "I have great respect for Trish (Millines Dziko, TAF's executive director), and the work she has done in the formation of TAF, their mission and vision. I anticipate developing a long and powerful partnership consistent with our focus on making sure 'all means all' is a reality and not just a dream."
TAF Academy is a sixth-through-12th grade public school model with a mission to prepare every student for college and for life through a rigorous and relevant curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. TAF Academy enlists students as active participants in their education and cultivates a keen awareness of their important role within the world.
Millines Dziko, the foundation's executive director, says she's excited about coming into the Federal Way community.
"We are so very excited to see this work in action, and we're very proud to partner with the Federal Way School District," Millines Dziko said. "The Federal Way School District has the right leadership for this endeavor and we're going to enjoy getting to know the community."
In the coming months, a team comprised of the leadership from Federal Way and TAF will reach out to the community, develop an implementation plan, and sign an operating agreement.
