Opb Shows Local Films

The work of some of the Pacific Northwest's most talented independent producers will be showcased over four nights on "Oregon Lens," a yearly special on Oregon Public Broadcasting now in its ninth season. Tune in to the stations of OPB TV at 10 p.m. Aug 27 through 30 to see a diversity of work from these producers.
"I'm always excited about the opportunity to share the incredible work of these independent filmmakers," said Steve Amen, executive producer and host. "Their subject matter may be diverse, but they all share a passion for filmmaking."
First up is "Making Pictures," an in-depth look at the stories behind the photographs by the Eugene-Register Guard's award-winning photojournalists. This behind-the-scenes documentary airs at 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27 and illustrates the important role community newspapers play in our daily lives.
On Tuesday, Aug. 28 the hour offers a number of works by northwest independent producers including, "Rent Trap" and "Tooth and Nail," the best films in the 48 Hour Film Project competition where production teams have only two days to write, shoot and edit a film under tight guidelines. This evening also features a number of stories by University of Oregon students in the Oregon Documentary Project.
The stories include "What About Us," a look at The Children of Incarcerated Parents Project; a historical look at "Vanport, Oregon's Lost City" and how the flood and subsequent relocation impacted Portland's minority communities; and "Deceptions in Truth," a look at the photographs of Major Lee Moorhouse taken in the 1880s and how they embellished and often altered others perspectives of Native American culture.
Two films are featured on Wednesday, Aug. 29. "No Boundaries" takes us to southeast Oregon's picturesque Steens Mountain Wilderness for a look at a volunteer cleanup effort to remove miles of barbed wire fencing in order to open the land up once again to the wildlife; and "Below The Clouds/Rainier Impressions," is an intimate portrait of the mountain as you follow in the footsteps of the filmmaker who spent four years bringing this extraordinary vision of Mt. Rainier to life.
The last film in the series airing on Thursday, Aug. 30 is "Eloquent Nude," which offers an intimate conversation with Charis Wilson, the wife, model and muse of Modernist photographer Edward Weston, who created some of the best nudes ever recorded on film.
