For the first time ever, two Washington counties are recognizing hip-hop's contributions to music, art and culture in Seattle. The Martin Luther King County Executive's and Pierce County Executive's awards for Excellence in Hip Hop are looking for nominations. The awards will acknowledge innovative performance, community service and entrepreneurial achievement by locally based members of the hip-hop community whose work has had significant impact in Martin Luther King and Pierce counties.
Nominate your favorite performer (solo, group), B-boys/B-girls, visual artist, DJ, MC, media/journalist, publication, promoter, record label, Hip Hop Pioneer or Unsung Hero. Self-nominations are welcome.
On the nomination form describe the nominee's contribution to hip-hop and tell us how the applicant has made an impact on the Martin Luther King or Pierce County hip-hop scene. Enclose media and/or promotional materials to support the nomination, such as CDs, DVDs, slides, photos, a press kit, bio, resumes, etc. When including media materials be sure to include information for:
• Artwork photos/slides-Include descriptions, dates created and any exhibit information;
• CD's-Indicate which track the panel should listen to;
• DVD's-Indicate scene selection or time-code where viewing should begin (if not indicated, the panel will listen to/watch the first five minutes of the media submitted);
• Promotional materials-submit photos, bio, resume and/or press kit relevant to the nominee's application.
Entrees must be delivered by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24 or postmarked by the U.S. Post Office by Dec. 17, 2007. Late nominations will not be reviewed. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish to have materials returned.

Nominations will be reviewed Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 by an independent panel which will select award recipients and categories based on applications received. The King County awards will be announced and presented at the MUSICA Festival on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. The Pierce County awards will be announced and presented at the MUSICA Festival on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.
