Radio talk show host and lawyer Warren Ballentine will headline a conference on law enforcement in Portland April 17-20. The northwest chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives will hold its annual training conference, "Leadership through Excellence: A Dialogue to Mentor Our Future" at theCrowne Plaza Holiday Inn,1441 N.E. 2nd Ave. Anyone working in the field of justice will especially benefit, said Vera Pool, president of the chapter, but the conference is open to all. Pool said space will be limited so people who want to attend should buy their tickets as soon as possible.

Workshops will look at, how youth get involved in gangs, explosives and etrace, crime victims rights, racial profiling, GPS tracking, family safety, vehicle recovery, mentoring, prevention and more.

Roy Jay, who leads Portland's African American Chamber of Commerce, will talk about Project Clean Slate at a special luncheon 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Warren Ballentine will host a Town Hall meeting Friday with 200 students from local high schools, discussing crime in the community. Ballentine also will be the keynote speaker at the closing banquet Saturday night.

Cost to attend the event is: Luncheon only: $50, Banquet only: $75, Conference registration, including luncheon and banquet: $200 for members and $250 for non-members.
