The Big Brothers Big Sisters held an African American Mentorship Luncheon in the Rose Room at the Rose Quarter on Sept. 16. The program, lead by Pamela Weatherspoon, tries to get African American adults to mentor African American children in need of mentors. Men are especially in need, as there are more Little Brothers than Little Sisters. Research shows that children who have a Big Brother or Sister are less likely to lie to their parents, more likely to do better in school and less likely to abuse alcohol or drugs.
