Cans Film Festival Helps Fill Food Bank Shelves

See a film and help fight hunger at the 28th annual Cans Film Festival, Thursday, Sept. 25.
Donate three or more cans or boxes of nonperishable food at any Regal Cinemas in Oregon and Clark County, Wash., and receive admission to a movie and a small popcorn. The offer is good for all shows except for no pass attractions.
"As the cost of food and fuel rises, more people seek emergency food," says Rachel Bristol, the food bank CEO. "The food that moviegoers donate during Cans Film Festival helps regional food banks of the OFB Network fight hunger in their local communities."
If you don't have time to see a movie, you can still help fight hunger by donating nonperishable food at any Regal Cinemas location on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. All food donations benefit the Oregon Food Bank Network in the community where it was collected.
Moviegoers donated more than 84,000 pounds of food to the Oregon Food Bank Network during Cans Film Festival last year. That's equivalent to 1,680 emergency food boxes. An emergency food box provides a three- to five-day supply of food for a family of four.

Most wanted foods include soups, stew, chili, boxed meals, canned meats, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice and cereal.
Oregon Food Bank is a nonprofit, charitable organization. It is the hub of a statewide network of more than 915 hunger-relief agencies serving Oregon and Clark County, Wash.
The food bank recovers food from farms, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, individuals and governments sources. It then delivers that food to 20 regional food banks across Oregon. Sixteen are independent charitable organizations.
The organization directly operates the four regional food banks serving the Portland metropolitan area, southeast Oregon and Tillamook County. Those four centers distribute food to 350 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs helping low-income individuals in Clackamas, Clark Multnomah, Washington, Harney, Malheur and Tillamook counties.
