On March 20, the Northwest Doula Conference brings together the region's practicing, training and prospective midwives and doulas, labor and delivery nurses and others interested in reducing the rate of infant mortality.
This inaugural conference will help doulas and their supporters to build friendships, coalitions and help share knowledge about the issues facing pregnant and postnatal women of color. The event will take place on Saturday, March 20 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The speaker's reception will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Community Health Education Center, 519 15th St. in Oregon City.
Keynote speaker will be Michelle Sarju, a licensed midwife and clinical director of Open Arms Perinatal Services in Seattle. Also speaking at the event will be Shafia Monroe, founder of International Center for Traditional Childbearing – an infant mortality, breastfeeding promotion and midwife training organization in Portland.
The conference will also help doulas understand how to build a birth team, create a doula practice, tips on craniosacral therapy and other important practices for midwives.
