Discover Seattle Newcomers Fair

Felicia Loud & the Soul are on the bill at the Newcomers Fair.

The Discover Seattle Newcomers Fair is a free community resource for Seattle's new residents — with a special outreach to communities of color.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St. It will feature information, demonstrations and workshops on how to access the broad array of city services, programs and resources available to Seattle's growing multicultural community.

Participants will have the chance to talk to local residents, and children's activities, workshops, "celebrity newcomer" interviews and much more are planned. All new residents, regardless of language ability, can attend; city of Seattle employees will serve as hosts, translators and interpreters. City departments positioned on the Fisher Pavilion floor provide information about city services, programs and resources, as will agencies and organizations representing the education, recreation and health and social services fields.

A special "living room" will allow event participants to engage in informal chats on a variety of subjects from emergency preparedness to the quirky side of Seattle's history. Seattle Parks and Recreation will host kid-friendly activities including arts and crafts, games and entertainment focusing on nature exploration and the environment.

Scheduled entertainment on the "Urban Stage" includes feature performances from some of Seattle's hippest musical artists.

Free Starbucks coffee will be available from 10 a.m. to noon, and parking is free from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seattle Center's Fifth Avenue lot.
