The Portland Police Activities League youth center is to close, Feb. 15.  Based at Northeast 172nd at Glisan, the center served some of the poorest children in the city: children and teens from the Rockwood neighborhoods of East Portland and Gresham. But financial troubles left the Eastside youth center without to money to effect crucial repairs to the center as a stark contrast to the Beaverton club.

The roster of homeless students in Washington State's  K-12 schools reached a whopping 27,390 during the 2011-12 school year, according to the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
