UNITED NATIONS (AP) — U.N. spokesman Farhan Haq is confirming that a United Nations plane has crashed in Congo at Kinshasa Airport.

Haq said Monday he did not have any information on any possible dead or wounded. "We can confirm that a plane is down, but cannot confirm casualties," he said. In a report from the BBC, there are thought to be at least 10 dead after the plane crashed upon landing, splitting into two pieces and catching fire.

The U.N. mission in Congo includes more than 19,000 uniformed peacekeeping troops.

The mission is charged with protecting civilians in the conflict-torn country from violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, including all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.
