The next meeting of the Vancouver NAACP is scheduled for this Saturday from 10 am to noon at the YWCA. The group has invited the Vancouver Police Department under the leadership of Captain Clifford Cook to speak to issues that impact our African American communities. The NAACP has asked the police chief and his staff to address the following issues:
1. Racial profiling;
2. Gang Lists: How do you decide who goes on it and how would one get off it;
3. Recognizing your Rights: How to defend yourself against an obstruction of justice or assault charges lodged by a police officer;
4. Law enforcement accountability;
5. Independent Review Board: Volunteers with subpoena powers;
6. Audio capabilities and on-board cameras: Are cameras and audio available within each car and if not why not?
7. Hate Crime and Incidents: Maintain statistics on hate incidents.
