As health reform continues to make its way through the halls of congress, one church in Northeast Portland will be discussing the moral and ethical dilemmas posed by the different levels of reform.
On Saturday, Nov. 7 Maranatha Church , 4222 NE 12th Ave., will hold a forum to discuss "Faith, Health Reform and Our Community" from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The forum, free and open to the public, will welcome faith leaders, doctors and policy experts into the same room to provide a perspective on the current state of our health care system from a religious, moral and ethical viewpoint.
The discussion is part of the Oregon Interfaith Health Justice Campaign, a project of Ecumenical Ministries or Oregon, the Archimedes Movement and Oregon Action.
Those involved with the panel discussion will include, Dr. Evan Saulino, a member of Oregon Academy of Family Physicians; Tricia Tillman, of the Oregon Office of Multicultural Health and Services; Liz Baxter, of The Archimedes Movement; JoAnn Bowman, of Oregon Action; and Ellen Pinney, of Oregon Health Action Campaign.
Faith leaders will lead the discussion, including Dr. T. Allen Bethel, Imam Mikal Shabaz, and Rev. Lynne Smouse Lopez.
