Portland Police say that Sgt. Mike Fort, a 19-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau, was the officer who fired his weapon early New Year's Day outside Club 915 in downtown Portland after witnessing homicide suspect Kevin Moffett (pictured at left) shoot his gun.
Fort followed Moffett as he fled the homicide scene broadcasting Moffett's direction of travel and description. With the help of other officers arriving on scene, Fort then took Moffett into custody.
Police say the victim of the shooting, Ruben Mata and other Club 915 personnel escorted Moffett and others out of the club when a disturbance occurred. After exiting, Moffett and Mata got into an altercation, resulting in the shooting death of Mata, according to police.
