The Obo Addy Legacy Project presented "Obo Addy's Legacy: DiaTribe—From the Village to the Streets at the Washington Park Summer Festival on Aug. 5.
A packed crowd in the Rose Garden Amphitheater was treated to traditional West African music, drumming and dance fused with hip-hop and break dancing.
The performance demonstrated the evolution of music and paid tribute to Master Drummer Obo Addy.
Addy passed away on Sep. 13, 2012 after a long battle with liver cancer. He was renowned for his drumming and prolific contributions to music education programs throughout the Northwest and beyond.
Founded in 1986 by Obo and Susan Addy, the project, previously known as the Homowo African Arts & Cultures, focused on artistic performances, teaching in K-12 schools and at the college level and writing compositions. Following its 26th anniversary, it became the Obo Addy Legacy Project.
