Roosevelt High School students’ seminal Black history project focusing on Portland’s own civil rights icons – our local ‘Freedom Riders’ -- is on display at the Oregon Historical Society’s free family day this weekend. Thursday the group has a special reception starting at 5:30 p.m.
Nearly 100 Roosevelt freshmen interviewed local civil rights activists to compile the professional exhibit, which tours the state then heads for our nation’s capital. The project uses students as exhibit docents to explain the historic record and engage viewers.
