After Portland African American Leadership Forum led a protest on gentrification, Mayor Hales pledged to add $20 million to the Portland Housing Bureau budget for affordable housing. Now the city wants you to weigh in on how that money should be spent.
The city will hold a series of public forums on how to best use the money. It has to be spent within the Interstate Urban Renewal district. The first forum is Thursday Sept. 18 at Highland Christian Center, 7600 N.E. Glisan St. Everyone is invited to attend a forum and tell the city your views.
Thursday 9/18/14 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Highland Christian Center
Saturday 9/27/14 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Matt Dishman Community Center
Thursday 10/9/14 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Gresham City Hall
Saturday 10/11/14 from 9:00 a.m. – Noon at New Song Community Church
Most of the funds will be spent on buildings, but the public will have a say in what type of buildings to invest in, how best to make them affordable, and how to ensure communities which have suffered from gentrification will benefit.
