The Foster Area Business Association’s second annual Winter Tree Lighting, starring a three foot tall traveling Winter Tree named Twiggy, is sure to be a big hit again this year. The lighting will happen at Laurelwood City Park in the Foster area at 6 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 29.
The unique neighborhood event is designed to welcome families of all kinds to come out and celebrate the season with secular caroling, hot cocoa, candy, kids crafts and to pick up a Winter Activity Book with coloring pages, kids activities, and recipes published by the Business Association for family fun you can take home with you.
After the tree lighting, Twiggy will travel to four local business, The Portland Mercado (11/29 to 12/6), Red Castle Games (12/6 to 12/13), Backstory Books (12/13 to 12/20) and Carts on Foster (12/20 to 12/27), bringing holiday cheer and discounts to shoppers who visit when she’s there!
“We really appreciate the Tree Lighting here at Red Castle Games. We love having Twiggy at our store, and it’s our good luck the event is across the street from us because family fun is what we’re all about.” Said Matthew Micetic, owner of Red Castle Games.
The first-ever Foster Area Tree Lighting in 2015 had more than 200 people in attendance, and was considered a breakthrough event for the district, which formerly had no winter event at all. This year is proving to be even larger with a predicted attendance of at least 300. The event page currently has 381 respondents on Facebook.
