WHAT:

Health and social service faculty from Portland State University and Oregon Health & Science University, as well as staff, students and community leaders will meet on Inauguration Day to take a collective Social Justice Pledge in light of the proposed repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Attendees will also will have the opportunity to make their own pledges and announce them to the group.

The Social Justice Pledge was drafted by an interdisciplinary group of academic and community partners from PSU, OHSU, state and local agencies, community organizations, and local health systems. The group, called the Social Determinants of Health Initiative, was started by the PSU schools of Social Work and Community Health, as well as the Department of Sociology.

The pledge include commitments to respect all humanity, support evidence-based research, defend academic freedom and freedom of the press, and to alert and educate the public about threats to the health of humanity in light of the Affordable Care Act’s imminent repeal.
