Disjecta Contemporary Art Center is proud to announce the Portland Biennial 2019 and its curatorial team: Yaelle S. Amir (Portland), Elisheba Johnson (Seattle), and Ashley Stull Meyers (Portland).
Disjecta selected this group of talented curators to shape the Biennial based on their strong curatorial and civic work that foregrounds conversations about site, cultural evolution, and multifaceted histories. In 2019, Disjecta looks forward to presenting a biennial that reflects a diverse landscape of Oregon artmaking and socio-political relationships.
Portland Biennial 2019 will be located in Disjecta Contemporary Art Center and partner locations throughout Portland that will host related programs. These partner locations will be selected by the curatorial team, focusing on organizations and spaces that are engaged in like-minded work.
The Portland Biennial program is a survey of works by visual and performing artists who are defining and advancing Oregon’s contemporary art landscape. The exhibition will be supported by artist and curator talks, performances, and a catalog documenting the exhibitions and events. The Biennial is an opportunity for audiences, artists, educators, and arts professionals to celebrate and discuss Oregon’s contemporary art. Disjecta invites all artists currently residing in Oregon to apply for inclusion in Portland Biennial 2019.
