Special “Purr-Livery” Arrives at the Oregon Humane Society

Portland, Ore. – In partnership with the ASPCA, 68 cats and kittens from Humane Society of North Texas arrived at Oregon Humane Society’s Cat and Kitten Intake Center this afternoon. While this is the first large transport to arrive at OHS’s Cat and Kitten Intake Center, close to 1,000 felines have been transported to OHS through the Second Chance program this year with most coming from shelters in Oregon and Washington.

“OHS is fortunate to have an offsite facility to accommodate these large transports during kitten season and we were glad to help,” says Jessica Wiseley-Kruger, OHS Admission Manager. “This effort is a great example of how animal welfare agencies are able to save more lives though collaboration.”

To help kittens find loving homes more quickly, OHS has launched a new adoption process designed to match adopters and kittens more efficiently while adhering to public health guidelines. A team of kitten adoption specialists will work with applicants to match pets and people and schedule contactless pickup. More information on how to adopt a kitten can be found here.

In the future, OHS will be able to assist with even more of these lifesaving transports through the New Road Ahead expansion project. The New Road Ahead includes a Behavior Rehabilitation and Rescue Center which will be essential for the sheltering and healing of animals. At this facility, pets rescued from wildfires, hurricanes, as well as cruelty and hoarding cases, will have a dedicated space where they can be sheltered, cared for, and provided with training.
