This July, the Professional Business Development Group, a trade association representing BIPOC and women contractors and others within the construction industry, is partnering with the Oregon Health Authority and community partners, including the Northwest Oregon Labor Council, to help promote COVID vaccinations. In addition to community outreach, the coalition is hosting two free vaccine clinics in the Portland Metro area.

“For us, it’s not just about increasing vaccination rates within the BIPOC community. It’s about our BIPOC and women-owned contractors leading the effort to protect individual workers and their loved ones,” said Kenechi Onyeagusi, executive director for the Professional Business Development Group.

Serving the community

The events are the result of partnerships with both union and non-union contractors and labor organizations to get the word out and encourage participation from workers and their families for this safe and convenient vaccine opportunity. Pfizer vaccines (two shots) will be available, with the second Pfizer shot being conveniently scheduled via participants local Safeway and Alberton’s. There will be free food and an opportunity to win raffle prizes.

“We are glad PBDG reached out for help,” said Bob Tackett, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northwest Oregon Labor Council.

“This is about serving our community – workers helping workers."

"Getting as many people vaccinated as possible helps make our workplaces and our families safer.”

The first clinic was held last Saturday (7/10) in Salem. The remaining events will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

  • 7/17 at Tualatin High School in Tualatin (22300 SW Boones Ferry Rd)
  • 7/24 at LiUNA! Local 737 in Portland (17230 NE Sacramento St)
