The Genealogical Forum of Oregon’s (GFO) African American Special Interest Group presents “Breaking Down Brick Walls With Collaboration” at its April meeting Saturday, April 16, from noon to 2 p.m. PT. Valerie Zimmerman is the presenter. The public is invited to attend via ZOOM.
In 2020 Zimmerman began researching her son-in-law’s Black family, and in the process connected with the local GFO’s special interest group. She is president of the South King County Genealogical Society, vice president of the Washington State Genealogical Society and co-vice president of the Black Genealogy Research Group of Seattle.
We'll discuss what a brick wall is, why collaboration is an excellent way to dissolve it, and where to find collaborator cousins. Valorie Cowan Zimmerman has been asking questions about her family and looking for answers since the 1970s and has been online since the 1990s. In the 2020s she began researching her son-in-law's Black family and then connected to our group. She is president of the South King County Genealogical Society, vice-president of the Washington State GS, and co-vice-president of the Black Genealogy Research Group of Seattle.
