The Portland Rose Festival is set to make history this year by welcoming a special addition to its lineup: the legendary World War II Rosie the Riveters. These iconic women will not only grace the parade but also hold the esteemed position of Grand Marshals.
For the first time the annual American Rosie the Riveter Association Convention will coincide with the festival, adding a unique touch to the celebrations. The visiting Rosies will be showcased on their own float sponsored by The Boeing Company during the Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, June 10, accompanied by a group of modern-day tradeswomen from IBEW Local 48 dressed as Rosie the Riveter.
The convergence of the American Rosie the Riveter Association Convention with the Portland Rose Festival embodies the spirit of community, diversity and inclusivity that the festival represents. It is a celebration of the past, present, and future, and a tribute to the contributions of women to our society. The festival promises to be a memorable and meaningful experience for all, as it commemorates this historic milestone in Portland’s history.
The parade route starts at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, ventures onto Broadway, and proceeds along Weidler to MLK Jr. Blvd. A right turn takes the parade down MLK Jr. Blvd until Lloyd Blvd. Another left turn onto Lloyd Blvd. leads to the parade's grand finale at 16th and Multnomah, near the Lloyd Center.
