President Barack Obama's 49th birthday is Aug. 4. and, while he is heading to Chicago, to attend several Democratic party fundraisers and tour an auto plant, his supporters across the country also will be hosting fundraisers and parties designed to rally votes for the upcoming elections.
As well as wearing Obama t-shirts and hosting birthday parties, Democrats plan to showing their support for the administration by calling voters and asking them to support the president's party in the upcoming elections.
The Democrats will face stiff opposition in the Congressional races, from Republicans as well as from some on the left who have been dissatisfied with the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that Obama's birthday plans include having dinner with friends in Chicago and spending the night in his own house in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood.
Obama hasn't shied away from talking about his birthday, noting that his hair is getting more gray and his metabolism is slowing down as another year passes. Gibbs says that while there's no doubt that the presidency comes with enormous physical and mental strain, Obama "greatly enjoys" the job.
The president will return to Washington Thursday evening.
