The Seattle Public Library invites preschoolers, parents and caregivers to special story times in October at local libraries around the Seattle area to highlight Fire Prevention Month.
Firefighters from the Seattle Fire Department will read books on fire safety and display firefighting equipment.
Fire Chief Gregory Dean will be the special guest speaker and, along with a fire crew, will read from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., in the Microsoft Auditorium. Chief Dean will also read from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Douglass-Truth Branch, 2300 E. Yesler Way.
Deputy Chief James Woodbury will read from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Fremont Branch, 731 N. 35th St. Fire Marshal John Nelson will read from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Green Lake Branch, 7364 E. Green Lake Drive N.
All of the programs are free and everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is not required.

• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the Columbia City Branch, 4721 Rainier Ave. S. 206-386-1908.
• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the West Seattle Branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W. 206-684-7444.
• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the South Park Community Center, 8319 Eighth Ave. S. 206-684-7451.
• 11 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Beacon Hill Branch, 2821 Beacon Ave. S. 206-684-4711.
• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Northgate Branch, 10548 Fifth Ave. N.E. 206-386-1980.
The Seattle Fire Department will make every effort to be at these programs. In the event of an emergency, programs will be rescheduled. For more information, call the local library branch.
