Shawneen L. Betha, a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service, is Portland's 30th postmaster.
Dallas W. Keck, Portland District manager for the U.S. Postal Service conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Betha last week.
Born and raised in Portland, Betha began her postal service career in 1984 as a letter carrier working at the St. John's station in North Portland. She was promoted as a delivery supervisor nine years later.
In 1999, Betha became station manager of the Portland post office's Tigard Branch, and four years later was appointed manager of customer services, overseeing operations at half of Portland's 24 post office facilities. Since last year, she has served as Beaverton's postmaster.
"To be appointed as postmaster of my hometown is just an incredible privilege," Betha said. "I am excited to be Portland's postmaster and to work with the post office's 1,333 employees across the city, with a focus on giving Portland customers the best mail service possible."
A graduate of Jefferson High School, Betha enjoys volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society. Her other hobbies include scrapbooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
