Correction: An earlier version of this article said Dead Prez would be performing at Mississippi Studios. The Skanner News has learned there was a conflict and the group won't be performing at the Oct. 12 event.
The 2013 Teaching With Purpose Conference will be held Oct. 11 and 12 at Roosevelt High School.
The conference seeks to explore culturally specific methods of teaching students and invites educators, community stakeholder, parents and students to attend.
This year's conference features workshops, seminars and a Town Hall on Senate Bill 103.
Gloria Ladson-Billings will be headlining the list of speakers this year. She is renowned for her work in the fields of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Critical Race Theory.
Following the second day of the conference, there will be two entertainment events.
The first is a concert at Mississippi Studios featuring Wise Intelligent, Speaker Minds, Mic Crenshaw and Jae Lava. It goes from 7 to 9 p.m.
After that, conference founder Karanja Crews will be hosting Neo Soul Night at Harlem PDX from 10 pm to 2 am. The event is a fundraiser benefiting the Journey to Freedom Project.
