Black Journalists to Hold Student Workshop

The Seattle Association of Black Journalists will hold the inaugural Student Career Workshop where students will have the opportunity to learn from some of the most talented journalists in the Pacific Northwest.
The free workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the African American Academy, 8311 Beacon Ave. S.
Students will have a chance to meet with, interact with and ask questions of photographers, anchors, reporters, producers, editors and sports writers about their jobs. These professionals will share how they reached their goals and the steps students need to take to pursue careers in journalism.
The workshop includes small sessions led by local journalists on such topics as Exploring Your Career in Journalism, How to Start Your Newspaper Career, How to Start Your Career in Television, On-Line Media: Tools and Strategies.
Students are encouraged to bring samples of their writing, video clips (on CD, DVD, or VHS) or resume for a critique by a professional in one-on-one sessions. Lunch will be provided.
