Learn how to start a business and take control of a business' finances through upcoming seminars hosted by Mt. Hood Community College's Small Business Development Center.
Following is information about the seminars:
Going into Business: Start Smart! – This seminar will teach attendees everything they need to know before opening a business, including how to structure the business, choose a name, keep tax records and determine the profitability of an idea. Attendees have consistently expressed their satisfaction with this class. This one-day seminar is offered on Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The class is limited to 22 participants and costs $25.
Critical Legal Issues for Small Business – This workshop will explore oral and written contracts, negligence, defamation and premises liability, independent contractors and wage and hour laws. Matthew A. Wand, attorney at law, will teach this seminar on Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. The class is limited to 22 participants and costs $38.
Cash Flow – This seminar will compare the difference between accounting profits and cash flow. Come learn strategies for maximizing cash flow. Marilyn Peterson, business adviser, will teach this seminar on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $49.
Keeping Score – This class will teach attendees how to measure effectiveness and manage finances and marketing to maximize a company's potential for financial success. Peterson will teach this seminar on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. The class is limited to eight participants and costs $49.
Business Plan Bootcamp – This seminar will guide participants through the process of writing a successful business plan. Peterson will teach this seminar on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The class is limited to eight participants and costs $99, which includes a textbook, software and a one-on-one follow-up session.

Pre-registration is required a minimum of 72 hours prior to the beginning of each seminar.
