Pratt Fine Arts Center and Pilchuck Glass School announced Saya Moriyasu as the 2009 recipient of the Pratt/Pilchuck Partnership Glass Scholarship. This biennial award covers the tuition of a summer session at Pilchuck Glass School and is granted to an emerging or established artist who wishes to pursue new or experimental directions.
Saya Moriyasu received a BFA in Ceramic Sculpture from the University of Washington in 1991. She studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and was a Centrum Artist in Residence in 2001. Moriyasu has received grants from 4Culture and Artist Trust and most recently completed a permanent commission at the Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle.
Since 1976, Pratt Fine Arts Center has offered art classes for everyone and workspace for artists in its equipment-rich facilities in Seattle's Central District. Pratt serves 3,400 students each year and more than 500 working artists use Pratt's affordable studios and equipment.
Founded in 1971, Pilchuck Glass School has been a primary force in the evolution of glass as a means of artistic expression. Pilchuck has become the most comprehensive glass education and residency center in the world by creating innovative programs focused on glass while introducing the potential for combining it with other media, and by growing an ever-expanding international community of artists and patrons each year.
