Donna Freitas: A Talk on "Sex and the Soul"

TACOMA, Wash. – Donna Freitas, New York-based writer, teacher, and lecturer, will give a talk exploring the sexual and spiritual lives of today's college students on Thursday, March 26, 2009, in Kilworth Memorial Chapel at University of Puget Sound. The event starts at 7 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
Freitas, assistant professor of religion at Boston University, traveled across the country visiting college and university campuses, and talking to students about their experiences relating to sexuality, spirituality, romance, and religion. The result was a book telling their stories: their moral struggles, their lives on campuses where casual sex dominated the culture, and how they applied—or didn't apply—their religious faiths in confronting moral decisions. Freitas's 2008 book, Sex and the Soul: Juggling Sexuality, Spirituality, Romance, and Religion on America's College Campuses, revealed some unsettling facts for parents and opened the eyes of those who had previously failed to appreciate the dilemmas facing students.
The lecture and conversation is part of the annual Spirituality and Sexuality Lecture Series sponsored by the Office of Spirituality, Service, and Social Justice.
