Bring Home Your New Cat for Just the Cost of the Pet License

Starting Wednesday, July 8, King County residents who adopt a cat can bring home their new furry friend with a microchip, all vaccinations, licensed and spayed or neutered, for only the cost of the pet license: $30, if they live in the King County service area.
King County Animal Care and Control (KCACC) will waive the adoption fee on all cats one year or older adopted from the any of its locations: the Kent or Bellevue (Crossroads) shelters, foster homes, or four off-site adoption locations. KCACC will also include a free microchip with all cats adopted that are one year or older, an additional savings of $25.00.
Summer is kitten season in all animal shelters and as a result, cats over one year old are often overlooked by adopters in favor of younger animals.
"This promotion is intended to encourage people to think about adopting an adult cat," said King County Animal Care and Control Interim Shelter Manager Nancy McKenney. "Adult cats have a fully developed personality, are calm, and can make wonderful pets in your home right away."
The microchips in this promotion were a generous donation by microchip company AVID. Adopters can register their newly microchipped animal with the AVID national database for a small fee to make it even easier for their pet to be returned home if it gets lost or stolen.
"This summer, we're making cat companionship even easier and more affordable," said McKenney. The adoption promotion will continue through the end of the summer in hopes of getting as many animals as possible into forever homes."
