Oregon voters face an important decision this year: Who will govern the state next?

To help answer that question,OregonPublic Broadcasting will present intimate conversations with each of the six major candidates in the May 16 primary election for governor. The program will be broadcast from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 6, and again at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7, on OPB TV Channel 10.

OPB's Christy George and Colin Fogarty pulled the candidates off the campaign trail for a quiet interlude to bring viewers a fresh glimpse of these men.

The three Democrats — incumbent Gov. Ted Kulongoski, former State Treasurer Jim Hill and Lane County Commissioner Pete Sorenson — and the three Republicans — State Sen. Jason Atkinson, former Oregon Republican Party Chair Kevin Mannix and former Portland Public School Board Chair Ron Saxton — answer questions such as "When is it appropriate for a governor to defy a president?" and "What is the most surprising thing about you that most people don't know?"
The candidates will answer additional questions from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 5, on OPB Radio's "Oregon Territory" program. After the May 7 broadcast, viewers can log on to www.opb.org and hear each candidate's full answ-ers to all the questions posed them.
