In conjunction with Memorial Day, the three week Rose Festival starts Friday, May 28 at 5 p.m. with a human-powered vehicle parade around Waterfront Park.
Celebrate on Memorial Day at Waterfront Park Village from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Veterans, reservists, active military and their dependents all get free admission. Others pay $5 for ages 7 and older. The celebration will honor the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard, who has been deployed to Iraq since May 2009.

The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division will be conducting additional DUII enforcement over the weekend starting Friday, May 28 through Monday, May 31.
According to ODOT's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS, five people died in four separate fatal traffic crashes during the 2009 Memorial Day holiday period, May 22 – 25. More than 250 people have died in Oregon traffic crashes during the last 40 years over the Memorial Day holiday period. Since 1985, approximately 54 percent of the fatalities were in alcohol-involved crashes.
Other police jurisdictions are also involved in putting additional officers on the road.
