Video: Cops: New Evidence Found in Nc Missing Girl Case

Police said Thursday they have discovered new evidence in the case of a disabled North Carolina girl missing for more than a month, but authorities were tightlipped about exactly what they had found. The Skanner News Video
Hickory Police Department said it had given the evidence to analysts at the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, but that detailing it may jeopardize their investigation.

Zahra Baker has been missing since Oct. 9, and authorities think the 10-year-old is dead. Police have found her artificial left leg and are also testing a bone to see if it belongs to her. Zahra lost her left leg to bone cancer. She also uses hearing aids.

Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker, has been charged with obstruction of justice. Police say she admitted writing a bogus ransom note found at the scene of a fire in the family's backyard on the day her stepdaughter was reported missing.

The girl's father, 33-year-old Adam Baker, has arrested been on charges unrelated to Zahra's disappearance.

The Children Protection Council of Catawba County has planned a candlelight vigil on Nov. 16 to honor Zahra, who will turn 11 that day.
